Three Mavs named All-Region Basketball

Deon Berrien, Keiodre Perry, and Tahanee Bennell were named to the 2019 NJCAA Region 2 All-Conference Team.

Bennell and Berrien were first team selections while Perry was a second team selection.  Chelsea Rhoades was an honorable mention selection.

Bennell, from Turners Beach, Tasmania, Australia, averaged 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists per contest.

"Tahanee is an outstanding leader and competitor," said coach Greg Krause.  "She had a goal of eventually playing NCAA Division I when she came to the United States, and she has achieved that goal. In addition to basketball, she has had opportunities to share stories of her native Tasmania with various civic groups. Tahanee has represented NOC and our basketball program with great pride and dignity."

Bennell has committed to Austin Peay.

Berrien, a sophomore from Augusta, Georgia, averages 13 points and nine rebounds.

"Deon is someone who truly earned his recognition," said coach Donnie Jackson.  "He spends time in the gym every day, he is always in the weight room, and gets other guys in the gym with him.  For him to be a first teamer is a salute to his work ethic and game performance."

Perry, a sophomore from Covington, Georgia, averages 13 points and four rebounds per game.  He signed with Jacksonville State in November.

"Keiodre is a veteran player," Jackson said.  "He has had many good region games over the past two years and I am excited that other coaches take notice.  His assists and rebounds have gone way up while he continues to make big shots for us.  I still believe that we have not seen his best basketball."

Rhoades, a sophomore from Sentinel, was named Honorable Mention.

"Chelsea has consistently improved throughout the season and is reaching her peak level of play at the right time," Krause said.   "She is very aggressive and always plays hard. It has been a pleasure coaching her."
