Balanced scoring leads Lady Mavs over Eastern

The NOC Lady Mavs picked up a Homecoming win Thursday night wth a 79-72 win over Eastern at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.

NOC (8-14) and 5-7 in conference play used a balanced attack.

Tahanee Bennell and Taylar Watkins had 15 points each while Mia Brown added 14 and Hannah Maples 12.

The Lady Mavs led throughout building as big as a nine point lead in the second half but could never shake the Mountaineers.

After leading 38-36 at half, the Lady Mavs built the lead to 47-38.

Eastern rallied to within 74-70 with 1:35 remaining but Mia Brown scored on a put back and Watkins then hit a 3-pointer from the corner to give NOC a 79-70 lead.  Eastern then scored to cut the lead to 79-72.

The Lady Mavs win was their second against Eastern.  NOC won at Eastern 76-62 on Jan. 14.

"It was a good team effort," said coach Greg Krause.  "I thought we had a balanced scoring attack. Shifting to a zone in the fourth quarter seemed to settle us down defensively and help us deal with some foul trouble."
