IOLA, Kansas -- The Northern Oklahoma College Lady Mavericks split two games at the Allen County Classic in Iola, Kansas this past weekend in the 2018-19 season opener.

The Lady Mavs (1-1) won the opener 93-76 over host Allen on Friday and then dropped the Saturday game to Highland County 73-59.

"We played well for the most part, considering it was the first two games of the season," said head coach Greg Krause.  "We also saw several things to work on both offensively and defensively. The competition was very good and playing away from home was a good experience for us to build on."

Lady Mavs 93, Allen County 76

Mia Brown and Tatiana Jones combined for 44 points leading five Lady Mavs in double figures in a 93-76 win over Allen County in the season opener.

Carlee Murray added 12 points while Taylar Watkins and Hannah Maples added 10 points each.

Brown and Watkins led the Lady Mavs on the boards with seven each.

The teams were tied at 40-40; the Lady Mavs then outscored Allen 53-36 in the second half

The Lady Mavs out rebounded Allen County 53-38.

Highland 73, Lady Mavs 59

Tahanee Bennell and Mia Brown combined for 23 points in a 73-59 loss to Highland County Saturday in the second game of the Allen County Classic. 

Bennell led the Lady Mavs with seven rebounds as the Lady Mavs out rebounded the Scotties 44-32.

The Lady Mavs trailed Highland 44-29 at half.

The Lady Mavs host Allen County at 5 p.m. Friday in the Maverick Basketball Classic at Foster Piper Fieldhouse.
