Lady Mavs look for second semester improvement

The NOC Tonkawa Lady Mavs open the second half of the season Friday hosting Arkansas Baptist College at Foster Piper Fieldhouse.

The Lady Mavs finished the first half of the season with a 3-9 record, NOC Tonkawa is 0-2 in conference play.

NOC is led in scoring by Hannah Nealis (13.4 ppg), Tahannee Bennell (11.5 ppg, 4.6 assists), and Sabela Reigosa (8.2 ppg, 6.6 rpg).

The Lady Mavs have been competitive in a number of games this season but have struggled to finish.

"That's an area we have to improve," said head coach Greg Krause.  "We have competed well at times and given ourselves a chance to win but we haven't been able to finish games.  That's something we have to figure out during the second half of the season."

Krause said the Lady Mavs played a difficult schedule the first half of the season something and he hopes the Lady Mavs will benefit.

"We played some tough teams at Odessa, Texas, and with New Mexico," he said.  "I think our players have fought through that and stayed positive.  I hope that experience will help us as we head toward our conference schedule."

The Lady Mavs get back freshman guard Chideyah Guyton and post player Rebekah Hissam from injuries for the second half.

"They'll both help us from a depth standpoint," Krause said.

The Lady Mavs resume conference play Jan. 11 against Murray State.

"You play the first half of the schedule to prepare for conference," Krause said.  "We'll need to play our best basketball."
