Lady Jets outlast Lady Mavs 73-66

The NOC Enid women won the first Bedlam Battle of the 2017-18 season Wednesday night in Enid with a 73-66 win over NOC Tonkawa.

Wednesday's win improved the Lady Jets' record to 10-1.  The Lady Mavericks fell to 3-8.

Lady Jet Andi Pierce led all scorers with 27 points while Sabela Reigosa led NOC Tonkawa with 16 points.

The Lady Jets built a 34-27 halftime lead over the Lady Mavs and then extended that lead to 61-44 before NOC Tonkawa went on an 18-0 run in the third and fourth quarters to take a 62-61 lead on a Sabela Reigosa jumper with 4:10 remaining.

The Lady Jets then answered the Tonkawa run with an 11-0 run of their own taking a 72-62 lead before coasting to the 73-66 win.

"Give credit to Tonkawa for coming back in the second half," said Lady Jets head coach Scott Morris.  "They played their hearts out and fought hard.  They hit some timely shots in the fourth quarter.  We were out of synch defensively most of the game but we found a way to gut it out and get the win."

Lady Mavs coach Greg Krause was pleased with the second half comeback.

"We made a good run in the fourth quarter, but we need to finish stronger," Krause said.   "I felt like our consistency improved. We have to continue to work on controlling those parts of the game we can."

Tanara Combs also reached double figures for the Lady Jets with 18 while McKenna Pulley added 10.

Hannah Nealis reached double figures for the Lady Mavs with 12 while Tahanee Bennell and Kaitlyn Hodges added 11 points each.

NOC Tonkawa hosts Labette Saturday at 2 p.m. while NOC Enid travels to Wichita Falls, Texas, for a 4 p.m. tip against Ranger College.
