Mavs softball blasts Western in conference opener

NOC Mavericks softball routed Western 13-3 and 12-0 in the conference opener for both schools Saturday at NOC.

NOC (11-4, 2-0) pounded out 24 hits in the two games over Western (0-12, 0-2).

In Game 1, Farrah Bonds and Jakayla Whitney had three hits and two rbi's each to lead the Mavs.  Savanah Mundell had two hits including her second home run of the season.  Madi Baughman also added two rbi's.

NOC trailed 3-2 until the 3rd inning when the Mavs erupted for seven runs followed by four runs in the 4th.

Taylor Lane (7-1) earned the win in the circle allowing two earned runs on four hits.  Lane struck out eight. In Game 2, the Mavs jumped out to a 6-0 lead and were never threatened.

Kendall Heisler homered and doubled for the Mavs while Mundell, Baughman, Jordan Graham and Baylee Scrimshire added extra base hits.

Mundell had four rbi's for the Mavs while Whitney added two hits.

Madi Baughman (3-2) was the winner in the circle with relief help from Kylie Garrett.  They combined on a three hit shutout.
