Dodge City Blanks Northern 1-0

Dodge City Blanks Northern 1-0

Dodge City scored a goal midway through the first half and held on to beat the Mavericks 1-0.  The game was a very even contest with both teams recording fourteen shots.  The Conquistadors had eight shots on goals, and the Mavericks had seven.  Each team's goalkeeper had seven saves.

Dodge City scored when a Northern defender misplayed a ball in the box that fell right to a Conquistador forward for an easy shot.  Dodge City outshot the Mavs seven to four in the first half.  The game would tilt towards the Mavericks in the second half with Northern outshooting Dodge City ten to seven.  Dodge City's goalkeeper made some great saves to pick up the shut out.  John Woodhead had two great chances in the second half with one open shot in the box that the goalkeeper made a nice save on, and a free header on the back post that went just wide of the goal.  Harry Yorke, who was injured for most of the game, came in late and hit the crossbar with minutes left to play.  George Robinson had a great chance in the last seconds, but the Dodge City goalkeeper was able to stop the shot as the final whistle blew.

"For the neutral observer this was a great game, but for me and the guys it was a gut wrenching loss.  You would think a game with a 1-0 scoreline would not have had many chances, but both teams created a lot of chances.  The game went back and forth.  If it wasn't for good goalkeeping by both teams this score could have been 4-3 or something around that.  Ruben Flores had his best game in goal for us.  It was something that we can build on.  We have a few guys out right now with injuries, and we may have lost another player with a knee injury, so we are playing some guys now that haven't played much this year.  Despite the loss we will find some positives from the game, and continue to work to get better."
