Mavs Win Streak Comes to an End

Mavs Win Streak Comes to an End

Rose State ended the Mavs win streak topping the Mavs 3-0 in Midwest City.  More importantly Rose gave themselves a shot at the conference championship with the win.  The Mavericks would have basically clinched the title with a win.  The Raiders came out fast and dominated early possession of the ball.  The possession paid off in the tenth minute with a goal.  Neither team could score the rest of half despite both teams having a few good chances.

Northern came out strong in the second half controlling most of the possession, but couldn't find the net.  Rose State was awarded a penalty kick early in the second half, and took a 2-0 lead.  After the goal the Mavs increased the pressure on the Raider's goal, but strong defending by Rose kept the Mavericks scoreless.  Rose State added another goal against the run of play midway through the second half to put the game out of reach.

Northern outshot Rose 15 - 7 in the game, and a decisive 10 - 3 in the second half.  Corner kicks were even at four each.  Rose State improves to 6-1 in conference and the Mavs fall to 5-1 in conference.  The teams split the series with the Mavs picking up a 3-2 victory earlier in the year.

"Credit goes to Rose State.  They wanted this game more than we did, which is disappointing.  The game, as it always does, came down to who could find the net.  Their defenders did an outstanding job of blocking our shots." Mavericks coach Michael DuRoy

DuRoy continued, "I think we were a little overconfident and complacent.  This team can't afford to do that against any team.  I have been saying all year our margin for error is very thin.  If we don't do almost everything right we can lose.  There were a lot of things that we can learn from this game.  It certainly should motivate the guys for the rest of the season and the playoffs.  If not than we don't deserve to be champions anyway."
