Men's Soccer Wins 5th in Row

Northern won their fifth game in row at Metropolitan Community College in Independence, Missouri Sunday.  The Mavs got off to a quick start scoring less than a minute into the game.  Jesus Aleman deflected an errant Wolves pass by the goalkeeper to open the scoring.  Metro would tie the game in the thirteenth minute, and the score would remain that way through the half.  The Wolves opened the scoring in the second half off a free kick that was headed past Northern goalkeeper, Cristhofer Monje.  Northern didn't trail for long.  Mitchell Wilson received a corner kick from Brian Romero, turned and shot to the far post to tie the game.  Matthew Cuellar scored the game winner late in the game by beating the Metro centerback one v one and shooting between the goalkeeper's legs with eleven minutes left.  Northern was able to play out the rest of the time without giving Metro many chances to tie the game.

"It wasn't our best effort or performance by any stretch, but it's good to win when you don't play your best.  I was happy to see Matthew and Mitchell score." Mavericks coach Michael DuRoy

The Mavs record is now 7-4.  They will return to conference play Tuesday at 3:00 hosting Eastern Oklahoma State College.
