Mavs Win Third in a Row

Mavs Win Third in a Row

Northern topped USAO JV 3-2 Thursday in Chickasha.  The Mavs did not get off to a good start giving up a goal in the fifth minute of the opening half.  The goal did seem to wake up the Mavericks as Leonardo Fogarty evened the score less than a minute later.  Brian Romero was credited with the assist.  Ten minutes later Fogarty would strike again off an assist from Jaime Ponce.  The Mavericks threatened to break the game open late in the first half off great shots by both Brian Romero and Obed Santos, but the Drovers goalkeeper was up to the task making two really good saves.

Leonardo Fogarty would complete his hat trick early in the second half scoring a goal in the opening minutes after receiving a pass from Cin Mang.  The Mavericks dominated most of the second half, but couldn't add another goal.  Juan Cerda had two good chances for the Mavs, but once again the USAO goalkeeper was able to keep the ball out of the net.  USAO scored a late goal on a free kick to make things interesting, but Northern was able to possess the ball and run out the clock to pick up the win.

"Leonardo Fogarty came through for us today.  I was really happy for him.  I was also happy that we were able to play some guys that have not had the chance to get much playing time this year.  Ruben Flores played the whole game for us in goal, and did a nice job.  We played our reserves on the back line for much of the game.  Mitchell Wilson had a great game for us at centerback.  Darrion Wilson also had a great game in the midfield.  I thought he was the best midfielder in the game."  Northern coach Michael DuRoy

The Mavericks will travel to Miami on Sunday to take on Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at 5:00.
