Sophomores Go Out With a Win

Northern topped Oklahoma Wesleyan JV in the last game of the regular season 2-0.  It was last game on Maverick Field for sophomores, Bryson Reed, Matthew Cross, Reece Harrison, Chase Venable, Rojay Smith, Prince Dom Afriyie, and Josh PetersRojay Smith scored the first goal midway through the first half with John Woodhead picking up the assist.  The Newcastle tandem of John Woodhead and Reece Harrison teamed up for the Mavs second goal.  Woodhead scored the goal and Harrison had the assist.

"It wasn't pretty.  I give Oklahoma Wesleyan a lot of credit.  They came in and really competed.  The wind was a factor, but we have to find a way to play through it better.  We scored both of our goals against the wind, but we never really settled into the game.  I think our focus was on the playoff and it being the last game at home, which is understandable.  We will be ready for the playoffs Saturday."  Coach DuRoy said.

"Coach Jade and I are so proud of all the sophomores.  They have represented Northern very well on and off the field.  They all have bright futures." DuRoy continued.

The Mavericks finished the regular season 12-4-1.  They enter the playoffs on an eleven game unbeaten streak.  Northern will take on Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Saturday at 2:30 in the Region 2 Semi-final at the NEO football field.
