Mavs Drop Another

Murray State came into Tonkawa on a beautiful Sunday afternoon a huge underdog and left with a big win 2-1.  Northern in what has become a disturbing trend gave up an early goal for the fourth time this season.  Murray State played a ball across the box to an open player on the far post for an easy goal to put the Aggies up 1-0.  The Aggies would not get many more chances the rest of the way, and Northern would take over possession outshooting Murray State 16-4 in the first half.  The Mavs could not find the back of the net through a combination of poor shooting and great goalkeeping by the Aggie goalkeeper.

The second half started the way the first half ended.  Northern was all over Murray State finally breaking through in the fifty-six minute mark on a goal by Rojay SmithPrince Dom Afriyie was credited with the assist. It looked like Murray State was playing for a tie until late in the game when Maverick defender, Jeff Rhea and goalkeeper, Matthew Cross misplayed a ball that left a Murray State forward with an open goal for the tap in game winner.  Northern, once again, dominated all the statistics outshooting Murray State 27-6 and Northern created thirteen corner kicks to the Aggies five.

A very frustrated Michael DuRoy vented after the game.  "We are really struggling to score goals right now.  We are pretty good everywhere else, but we have had a few defensive breakdowns in each game that has cost us.  We have come out slow in almost every game, and that is on me.  I need to do a better job of getting the guys ready for the start of the game.  We have been creating so many shots every game without success.  Twenty-six shots and one goal is awful.  We need to keep working and get better."
