Former Maverick Returns to Campus

This week Head Mens Basketball Coach Donnie Jackson received a surprise visit from a familiar face. Among the long list of players to reach the 4 year level under the tutelage of Coach Jackson, Torrey Noel recently graduated with a degree in General Studies from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

Noel helped the Mavs to a 26-7 record his sophomore year (2015-16). A native of Midwest City, Oklahoma, he was a prep star for the Bombers who are a perennial basketball power in the state of Oklahoma.

Noel looks back fondly on his time in Tonkawa, so much so that he now hopes to pursue a career in coaching, no doubt in part due to his relationship with Jackson and other coaches who have mentored him.

Entering his 6th season at the helm, Coach Jackson reflects more on the relationships he has built than the wins and losses.

"It is always great to see guys come back long after their playing days at NOC are over. Things like that are a true testament to what this job is all about. Life long relationships, helping guys become better fathers and husbands some day. That is what we strive to do here"

Northern is always proud to boast of those who have gone on to succeed both academically and athletically, but perhaps none embody the values of NOC more than Noel. During his 2yrs with the Mavs, he set the standard for the student athlete both on and off the court. Helping Jackson build the culture that has become the foundation of a program in which toughness, accountability, and integrity are cornerstone.
