Mavs pick up conference win over rival NOC Enid

Sophomore Deon Berrien had a second straight double-double leading NOC Tonkawa to an 80-65 win over NOC Enid Friday night at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.

Berrien had 24 points and 18 rebounds, leading four Mavs in double figures.

Omar Boone added 16 points while Keiodre Perry had 15 and Khobe Austin-Johnson added 11.

"It was a good win over the Jets," said coach Donnie Jackson.  "They have a lot of shot makers and it can really pressure your defense.  I thought Omar (Boone), Khobe (Austin-Johnson), and Keo (Perry) did an excellent job of keeping their guys in front.  Barron (Tanner) and Deaveon (Bankston) gave us great minutes off the bench while Deon (Berrien) controlled the glass."

Friday's game was nip and tuck throughout the first half with the Mavs taking a 33-29 lead into the dressing room.

The Mavs then slowly pulled away in the second half building the lead to 54-38 midway in the second half.

The Jets kept the game within striking distance cutting the lead to 72-60 with 2:43 left on a 3-pointer by Romio Harvey.  The Mavs then scored four straight to put the game out of reach.

The Mavs host Eastern Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.   Eastern scored on a last second shot to beat the Mavs 91-88 on Jan. 14.

"Eastern is a team we owe," Jackson said.  "They beat us on their home court and we have to find a way to get the split.  They play fast and free so we'll need to be ready for a different pace of play."
