Mavs lose at home to Missouri State - West Plains

The Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks concluded non-conference play Thursday losing to Missouri-State West Plains 97-87 at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse in Tonkawa.

NOC (11-6) saw their two game winning streak snapped.

The Mavs were led by Trevion Lamar with 21 and Deon Berrien with 20.  Keiodre Perry added 18.

NOC led 47-41 at half but West Plains outscored the Mavs 56-47 in the second half.  West Plains outscored the Mavs 15-1 over the first four minutes of the second half and the Mavs never recovered.

"I thought we played hard and competed but I give West Plains a lot of credit," said head coach Donnie Jackson.  "The made some tough shots down the stretch and in key moments.  They had just lost on the road Tuesday night and came in with an edge."

NOC made a number of runs in the second half cutting the lead to 90-84 with 1:09 remaining but West Plains made seven free throws late to seal the 10 point win.

Lamar added 10 rebounds while Berried added eight.  Khobe Austin-Johnson added four steals for the Mavs.

Next on the Mavs schedule is a road trip to Eastern on Monday.

"The most important games of the year are here with Region 2 starting back on Monday against Eastern," Jackson said.  "They are currently in first place with a 3-1 record and have already defeated Connors and NEO at home.  They have scored over 100 points in every game but two and have not lost a home game.  We will need our best preparation in order to give ourselves a chance to win on the road."
