Mavs split games at Iowa Classic

OTTUMWA, Iowa --  The Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks split two games at a two day classic in Iowa this past weekend.

The Mavs (9-5) beat Iowa Lakes 67-61 Friday and then lost to #17 Indian Hills 100-81 Saturday.

"Our win against Iowa Lakes was a very good win," said head coach Donnie Jackson.  "They are a nationally ranked NJCAA D2 Juco who is very well coached.  It was grinder game and we found a way to get a good win."

"Indian Hills is a great team," he said.  "You have to play exceptionally well to go on the road and win in Ottumwa.  We competed well until the end and that's all you can ask.  They shot the ball well and Tomas Woldetensae showed why he is one of the best guards if not the best guard in the country."

"With our schedule and the adversity we have faced with injuries, 9-5 is not a bad spot," Jackson continued.  "

We just have to learn how to win a big road game against top teams.  If we can find a way to do that, we could make a push towards the Region 2 crown."

The Mavs are off until Jan. 8 when they host Kansas City Community College.
