#24 Mavs lose to #19 Cowboys in conference tilt

In a game featuring two Top 25 teams, #19 Connors defeated #24 Tonkawa 80-64 to force a tie at the top of the OCAC standings.  Both teams are now 6-1 in conference.

The Mavs are 17-4 on the year while the Cowboys improved to 17-2.  The loss ended NOC's 12 game winning streak.

In the battle of top 25 teams, NOC led the Connors Cowboys 57-52 with 7:00 left when Connors went on a 28-7 run to end the game.

An Amir Allen free throw gave NOC a 57-52 lead before Connors took the lead with 5:02 remaining and then capitalized at the foul line late.

Connors was 12 of 12 at the line in the final minutes pulling away 80-64 over the Mavs.

"I thought our guys played hard," said head coach Donnie Jackson.  "We had a few key turnovers that took away our momentum when we had opportunities to go on runs.  Give Connors credit, they made big plays when they needed it."

Northern built a 24-17 first half lead but Connors answered with a 13-0 run to build a 30-24 lead over the Mavs.

NOC then answered the Cowboy run with one of their own with a 12-4 run to end the half.  Keiodre Perry's 3-pointer with :45 left gave the Mavs a 36-34 halftime lead.

Trevion Lamar led the Mavs with 16 while Anselm Uzuegbunem had 11.  Amir Allen and Khobe Austin-Johnson added 10 each for the Mavs.
