Mavericks picks up big win over Hill College
Trevion Lamar led the NOC Mavericks with 26 points in an 85-72 win over Hill College (Texas) Saturday at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.
Saturday's win improved the Mavs' record to 10-3, Hill College dropped to 10-2.
"The guys wanted to prove they could win a national level type game," said head coach Donnie Jackson. "Hill has a great team and our guys came out ready to play and prove a point. I'm proud of their effort."
The Mavericks jumped out to an early lead over the Rebels hitting five 3-pointers in the first minutes taking a 20-9 lead.
NOC built an 11 point lead at 31-20 before a Rebel run late in the half cut the lead to 43-39.
NOC answered that run with a 5-0 run to end the half with a 48-40 lead.
Leading 48-44 early in the second half the Mavs exploded on a 21-3 run to put the Rebels away taking a 69-47 lead. The Rebels would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Lamar and Khobe Austin-Johnson each had seven points in the 21-3 run.
Khobe-Johnson also reached double figures with 19 and Chris Hamil added 10 for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks hit 11 3-pointers in the 85-72 win.
Next on the Maverick agenda is a Wednesday date at NOC Enid.
"The real game is on Wednesday at Enid," Jackson said. "We will need to be tougher than we were Saturday in order to win a rival conference game on the road. We'll need two great days of preparation to give ourselves the best opportunity."
