Mavericks gained revenge

The NOC Mavericks gained revenge on the Cowley College Tigers Wednesday night with an 80-64 win in the 2017-18 home opener.

  Wednesday's win improved NOC's record to 2-2.

"We've improved so much in the past week," said head coach Donnie Jackson.  "We lost to Penn Valley last Friday and we had a heart to heart after the game.  We talked about doing the little things better and how we had to play hard every possession.  We played better against Allen last Saturday and it continued against Cowley."

Northern was led by Keiodre Perry with 19 while Amir Allen added 17.

The game was similar to NOC's road trip to Cowley where the Tigers jumped out to an early lead and the Mavs played catch up except this time the Mavs were the team dictating the tempo.

Northern jumped out to an early lead and forced the Tigers to play uphill.

The Mavs led 32-28 late in the first half before NOC finished the half with an 8-4 to build a 40-32 halftime lead.  Perry led the Mavs with 11 in the first half while Allen added eight.

Cowley cut the NOC lead to 42-36 early in the second half  before NOC went on a 20-9 run to build a 62-45 lead.

Cowley trimmed the lead to 71-58 with 4:10 to go but NOC rebounded with a 6-0 run to bump the lead to 77-58.

NOC then cruised to the 80-64 win.
