NOC baseball sweeps Oklahoma Christian

The 12th ranked Northern Oklahoma College Baseball Mavericks swept Oklahoma Christian JV in a doubleheader Tuesday at Maverick Field.

The Mavs (7-0) won the opener 8-4 and the nightcap 7-1.

After seven games, coach Ryan Bay likes what his team has accomplished in the early portion of the schedule.

"We've been solid to this point," Bay said.  "The defense has played a little above expectation for this early in the year.  We continue to improve at the plate in terms of recognizing and executing situations.  Our pitchers have competed well but would like to see our walks per inning go down overall.  The wins are great but what I really want to see is continued improvement in all areas."

In the opener, shortstop Bryan Burgos had four hits including a double and two runs batted in.  Jaken Snider and Josh Bumgarner added two runs batted in as well.

Zack McCombs earned the win with 3.1 innings of one hit relief striking out five.  Bryson Armstrong earned the save.

NOC trailed 4-0 after three innings but rallied for four runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to take the 8-4 win.

In the second game, the Mavs scored four runs in the third and three runs in the sixth.

Sam Shank and Cole Rodriguez had two hits each as the Mavs had eight hits, all singles.

Zach Stephenson allowed one run over five innings striking out one allowing four hits.
