Mavs drop Region 2 tourney opener

ENID, Oklahoma -- Northern Oklahoma College dropped their opening round game in the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament 5-3 to Carl Albert Thursday afternoon at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid.

NOC (41-15) drops to the consolation bracket Friday afternoon at noon where the Mavs face #2 Western.  The Pioneers lost to Redlands 8-7 late Thursday.

The 15th ranked Mavs played from behind all afternoon but tied the game at 3-3 in the 8th inning on a home run by catcher Cacy Harper.

The Vikings then scored two runs in the 9th to take a 5-3 lead.

NOC had the tying run at the plate in the 9th but Cale Francis grounded out to end the game.

Trevin Michael went the distance allowing two earned runs on eight hits.  He struck out 10 and walked four.

Luke Quick, Harper, and Ben MacNaughton had two hits each, MacNaughton had a rbi single in the 6th.

Before the game, Mavs catcher Cacy Harper and pitcher Trevin Michael were named to the NJCAA Region 2 All-Region Team.
