Mavs sweep Carl Albert, clinch second in conference

PONCA CITY, Oklahoma -- NOC baseball sophomores had a busy day Saturday.

They graduated Saturday morning at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse and then swept Carl Albert in two games Saturday afternoon in Ponca City.

NOC (42-13-1) has now six straight heading to the NJCAA Region 2 Playoffs Thursday in Enid.  Saturday's wins clinched second place in conference play.

In Game 1, the Mavs trailed 6-0 early before rallying to tie the game in the sixth and then walked off a 7-6 conference win when Gabe Griffith singled home Luke Quick.

Cacy Harper had a home run and a double for the Mavs driving home four runs.  Tanner Long also had a solo shot for the Mavs.

Tyler Kisner earned win pitching a scoreless seventh inning, Trevin Michael tossed four innings of one hit baseball in relief of Korde Busby.

The Mavs rose the momentum in Game 2 scoring seven runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 9-5 win.  Eric Gutierrez had three run blast to provide early momentum.

Long continued his big day with two more doubles while Griffith had two more hits and two runs scored.

Four Mavs allowed just two earned runs, Jack Edmunson earned the win in relief while Ethan Wilson earned a three inning save.

The Mavs will play next on Thursday in the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament.
