Mavs drop two at Western

ALTUS, Oklahoma -- In a battle of ranked teams, #19 NOC Tonkawa dropped a doubleheader to #14 Western in Altus on Thursday.

The 11-3 and 10-8 losses dropped NOC to 36-13-1 on the year while Western improved to 35-14.

NOC blasted three home runs on the day as Joey Pena, Cacy Harper and Tanner Long all went yard for the Mavs.

In Game 1, Dominick Trevino had two hits while Long had two runs batted in.

Trevin Michael started for the Mavs allowing eight runs on six hits.

Western jumped out to an early 6-2 lead and were never headed.

In Game 2, NOC jumped out to a 7-5 lead but couldn't hold it as Western scored four runs in the fifth to take a 10-7 lead and then held on for the 10-8 win.

The Mavs had the tying run at the plate in the ninth but couldn't push the tying run across.

Gabe Griffith had a big day at the plate with four hits and three runs scored from the lead-off spot.  Harper homered in Game 2 and had three rbi's while Pena had two rbi's.

Jack Edmunson started for the Mavs with bullpen help from Chase Bridges and Tyler Kisner.

The teams play another doubleheader Saturday in Tonkawa at 1 p.m.
