Mavs drop series opener to Murray State 11-8

The #3 NOC Mavs lost the first of a four game conference baseball series to Murray State 11-8 Thursday afternoon in Tonkawa.

NOC scored in every inning in Game 1 Thursday but Murray had two big innings, a four spot in the first and fifth innings.

After trailing early, Northern battled back to tie the game at 5-5 before Murray rallied with four of their own in the fifth to take a 9-5 lead.

NOC was led by left fielder Kade Marlatt who had four hits and four rbi's including two home runs and a triple.  Marlatt also scored three runs for the Mavs (29-3-1).

Joey Pena also homered for the Mavs and had three hits while Gabe Griffith added two hits for the Mavs.

Trevin Michael was the starter for the Mavs allowing eight earned runs on nine hits striking out four and walking three.

Chase Bridges allowed two earned runs in 2.2 innings of work striking out three.

Game 2 of the series was suspended in the 9th inning with Murray State leading 15-12.  The suspended game will be made up Saturday when NOC travels to Murray State for the final two games of the four game set.

In Game 2, Gabe Griffith had four hits and five rbi's while Dominick Trevino had two hits and four rbi's.  Trevino had a double and triple for the Mavs.
