Mavs win wild 14 inning affair over Southeast Nebraska, win series

The NOC Mavericks won an important early season series this weekend over Southeast Nebraska Community College.

NOC split a pair of games Saturday and won a 12-11 14 inning affair Sunday.  The final game of the series Sunday was cancelled due to darkness.

The Mavs are now 10-1 on the young season.

The Sunday game was a wild 14 inning affair with the Mavs winning 12-11.

NOC trailed 11-10 but rallied for the third consecutive inning when Kris Perez doubled home Dylan Lang and Eric Gutierrez with the tying and winning run.

Perez and Joey Pena had big days at the plate each with four hits and two rbi's.  Dominick Trevino also had two hits and two rbi's for the Mavs.

The Mavs hit three home runs by Pena, Gutierrez, and Kade Marlatt.

Albert Baez (1-0) picked up the win in relief.  Chase Bridges tossed five innings of relief for the Mavs.

"Not our cleanest game by any stretch," said Mavs head coach Ryan Bay.  "But loved the fight our guys showed throughout the game. We fell behind in extra innings three times and answered back each time. It was a great team win."

In the second game of the series, the Mavs scored two first inning runs and made it stand up in a 2-1 win.

Chris Cloud led off the game with a single and Dominick Trevino blasted a two-run home run to give the Mavs an early 2-0 lead.

Jack Edmunson made the early lead stand up on the mound tossing six innings of two hit baseball allowing one unearned run.  He struck out seven in improving his record to 3-0.  Kendel Foster earned his second save striking out two in a perfect 7th inning.

In the first game of the series, SE Nebraska pounded out 13 hits in a 12-4 win over the Mavs.  Tanner Long and Kade Marlatt homered for the Mavs, for Long it was his third of the season.

Trevin Michael (2-1) took the loss on the mound for the Mavs.

Southeast Nebraska is ranked 13th in the pre-season Division II Baseball Poll.
