NOC Maverick freshman Joey Pena blasted a home run in each game of a double header sweep of Ellsworth Community College Saturday in Tonkawa.
The 10-4 and 12-4 wins completed a four game sweep of the Panthers in the season opener. NOC is a perfect 4-0 on the year. Maverick sophomore Tanner Long also homered in Game 2.
NOC 10, Ellsworth 4
In Game 1, the Mavs pounded out 16 hits in a 10-4 win. Rhett Rutledge led a 16 hit attack with three hits and three rbi's for the Mavs while Kade Marlatt, Dominick Trevino, Joey Pena, Cale Francis and Eric Guttierez had two hits each.
Pena's three run blast came as part of a four run 6th inning for the Mavs.
Korde Busby picked up the win on the mound allowing one earned run over five innings. Busby struck out four and walked four allowing four hits.
NOC 12, Ellsworth 4
In Game 2, the Mavs rallied from a 3-1 deficit with a six run 5th and five run 6th to win 12-4.
Cacy Harper and Tanner Long had three hits each while Long and Joey Pena homered in the five run 6th.
Cale Francis had two hits for the Mavs while Long and Eric Guttierez drove in three runs each.
Chase Bridges came of the Mavs bullpen going 5 2/3 innings allowing just one run on four hits striking out five.
