Mavs sweep Ellsworth in baseball season opener

The Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks swept Ellsworth Community College in an opening season doubleheader Friday afternoon in Tonkawa.

NOC won the season opener 1-0 and then hammered the Panthers 12-2 in the night cap.

In Game 1, Trevin Michael and Kendel Foster combined on a two hit seven inning shutout.  Michael struck out six while Foster struck out all four hitters he faced to earn the save.

Northern scored its lone run in the fourth when Michael Murphy drove home Joey Pena on a ground out.  Pena led off the inning with a single.  Pena had two hits in Game 1.

In Game 2, the Mavs pounded out 12 hits in a 12-2 rout.

NOC scored in six of the seven innings as Kade Marlatt, Cacy Harper and Eric Gutierrez had two hits each.  Guttierez, Pena, Glock and Francis had two rbi's each.

Pena had a triple while Trevino and Francis added doubles for the Mavs.

Jack Edmunson picked up the win on the mound pitching into the 5th inning, Dylan McDonald and Ricardo Bones came out of  the pen to seal the Maverick win.
