Lady Tigers’ continue dominance of NOC-Tonkawa with 86-44 win

As was the case in Wednesday's season-opening win at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa, the Cowley College women's basketball team was keyed by another strong defensive effort in a 86-44 win over the Lady Mavericks Saturday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.

Cowley held NOC to 1-of-13 shooting in the opening quarter as they built a 10-2 lead. The Lady Tigers' lead would grow to 26-14 before a big third quarter helped blow the game open.

After going 1-for-19 from three-point range to start the season, Cowley sophomore Seanna Boltz, who finished second in the nation in three-pointers made a season ago, caught fire by nailing four three-pointers in less than a two minute span of the third quarter as Cowley's lead grew from 28-16 to 53-19 thanks to a 25-3 run.

"When she gets on a roll, she is tough to stop," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.

After going 0-for-15 from three-point range in the first half, Cowley went 7-of-12 from behind the arc in the third quarter.

Leading 60-25 entering the fourth quarter, every player but one scored for the Lady Tigers in the 42-point win.

Boltz led all scorers with 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting from three-point range. Joining Boltz in double figures was sophomore Kalyne Daniels, who finished with 15 points and six rebounds.

"Kalyne brings a lot of energy off the bench," Clark said.

Delaney Reimer was the lone NOC player to score in double figures as she finished with 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting. The Lady Mavericks (0-2) shot only 24.6 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 21 times.

Cowley (2-0) will remain home to face Garden City Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. This will be the season-opener for the Lady Conquistadors, who were picked to finish sixth in the Jayhawk West.

"Garden City is very talented, so we will need to play well," Clark said.
