Bucks Suffer 1-0 Loss to Tonkawa

(April 9, 2021) Tonkawa, Oklahoma – After back-to-back loss to opener their season, the Rich Mountain (0-3-0) made the long drive to NOC – Tonkawa to face the Lady Mavericks (3-0-0). The Bucks would outplay and out shoot the Lady Mavs, but came up short in a 1-0 loss.

To start off the game, the Bucks maintained possession for the first 12 minutes and missed on a few scoring opportunities. The Lady Mavericks made a few counters, but the Bucks defense prevailed. In the 13th minute, Maddie Tyler (Tulsa, Oklahoma) had a scoring opportunity and missed over the top of the goal. With the Bucks still attacking, Monica Boyes (Abilene, TX) put a ball on frame in the 16th minute that was stopped by the Tonkawa keeper. The Lady Mavericks countered after the shot, but the Bucks defense came up big inside the box to prevent a goal.

The Lady Mavs would maintain possession from the 25th to the 30th minute before the Bucks would counter and make a run of their own. But, the Lady Mavericks would counter in the 33rd minute before Elizabeth Rochen (Arlington, TX) would make a great save to end the attack. After back and forth in the midfield, the Bucks went on the attack as Isabelle Ryan (Mansfield, TX) put one on frame, but the Lady Mavs made a save in the 38th minute. The Bucks would make another run, but a goal kick by Tonkawa led to a breakaway goal for the Lady Mavs at the 41:50 mark in the match. Lady Mavs led 1-0 at the half.

To start the second half, the Bucks would get a corner kick opportunity in the 46th minute and a free kick just outside of the box in the 50th minute, but both opportunities were denied. The Bucks maintained possession as Madison Zamudio (Mansfield, TX) put one on frame that Lady Mavs keeper got her hands on in the 52nd minute. The ball continued to stay on the Bucks end of the pitch, and Remmie Ferla (Corby, England) blasted a shot just wide right in the 65th minute. One minute later, a free kick and header was stopped by the Lady Mavs keeper to end another Bucks attack.

In the 73rd minute, the Bucks reversed the ball, and Isabelle Ryan barely missed on a goal. It did result in a corner kick opportunity, but the Bucks were unable to capitalized. The Bucks put another ball on frame in the 77th minute, but the Lady Mavericks keeper made a diving stop. After going back and forth for the next 9 minutes, Zamudio played a ball across field that setup a shot for Rhiannon Holmes (Newcastle upon Tyne, England) that missed wide right. The Bucks would get a couple more chances on corner kick and couple of shot, but all were unsuccessful. Bucks fall 1-0.

The Bucks would fire 8 shots on a goal out of 16 total in the match. Elizabeth Rochen made 3 saves in the loss.

The Bucks play again on Sunday, April 11th, at Rose State College.
