Ottumwa -- Tomas Woldetensae delivered his third solid performance in a three-game, five-day stretch and Indian Hills used the sophomore guard's latest 20-plus-point game to defeat Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa, 100-81, Saturday in the HyVee Classic.
Woldetensae pumped in 24 points and drilled six 3-pointers in IHCC's 11th win of the season, sending them into a two-week break with an 11-3 record. He had scored a career-best 28 points with seven threes on Tuesday against Southwestern and 22 more points in Friday's contest with Western Nebraska, a pair of nationally-ranked teams. So, Woldetensae produced 74 points and knocked down 16 treys in the three-game span.
Against Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa, the Warriors jumped out to a quick 10-0 advantage, with Woldetensae hitting a jump shot and two threes, and Indian Hills wasn't threatened after that, the Mavericks never getting closer than five points the rest of the game.
The margin was 13 at intermission, 42-29. JD Muila, who was scoreless in the opening half, scored six points in a row at the outset of the final period and his replacement in the post, Anthony Bratton, came in and immediately contributed a tip-dunk. Bratton missed his season-high by a point with a 13-point effort and was 5-for-5 from the field. Tyon Grant-Foster had scored 14 in his first game as a Warrior last month against Butler CC and didn't reach that total again until he went for 14 on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Woldetensae drained four 3-pointers before halftime and added a pair in the second half to bring his season output to 42.
Torrey Patton scored 13 for Indian Hills, which is idle until playing a couple of games in Twin Falls, Idaho at the end of December. The second of those tests will be against Southern Idaho, which was ranked third when the Warriors knocked them off at the Hellyer Center last month.
Keiodre Perry had 17 of his team-high 19 points in the last half for the Mavericks. Deon Berrien scored 14 and Michael Lee 13.
Indian Hills will play USU-Eastern in their first of two games in Idaho on Dec. 28.
