About Athletic Training

The Division of Health, Physical Education and Recreation offers an educational foundation for an undergraduate program in Athletic Training. This program adequately prepares students for the Athletic Training programs offered at four-year institutions. Upon successful completion, students will graduate with an Associate in Science degree and can transfer to a four-year institution to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training.Although Northern Oklahoma College is an open-door institution permitting entry to all students, admission to the Athletic Training program is selective because of limited openings.

Athletic Training is a marketable career choice with a wide variety of career opportunities. Under the supervision of a licensed physician, the Athletic Trainer serves an important role in the health care system of recognizing, preventing, evaluating, managing, and rehabilitating sports injuries.

Athletic Training is recognized by the American Medical Association as an allied health care profession.  Specifically, the Athletic Trainer specializes in six performance domains: 1) Prevention of athletic injuries 2) Clinical evaluation and diagnosis 3) Immediate care 4) Treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning 5) Organization and administration 6) Professional responsibility.
